DMK burger bar

Well, no surprise that my first post will center around a cheeseburger joint. DMK Burger Bar is a newer Lakeview establishment at the corner of Wellington and Sheffield and last night, it provided me with many reason to love it: hoppin' atmosphere, lengthy beer list, impressive cocktail menu, grass-fed beef, inventive french fries, and one of the best vanilla milkshakes I have ever had.

Went with a group of five during happy-hour time and started with four "fry" items - fried okra/pickles, sweet potato fries with a yummy lemony aioli, fries smothered in Wisconsin cheddar and scallions, and fries smothered x2 in blue cheese and bacon... all delicious, but I think the sweet potato fries stood out as my favorite of the quartet. Had my first Half Acre brew (yay local!) followed by a pint of Brother Thelonious Belgian Style Abbey Ale - both will be staples in my beer stable moving forward.

Next came four of their signature burgers and a grilled cheese which the five of us finished every crumb of. It would have been impossible not to love my Italian-style burger with fontina cheese, red peppers, and salt and vinegar chips (ON the burger, not on the side), but on my next trip I look forward to trying a good old fashioned cheeseburger with the traditional toppings - they have become traditional for a reason, right?

Finished off the meal with a homemade vanilla bean milk shake that was lovely side by side with my belgian style ale and was perfectly crafted - not too thick, not too thin, not an ounce of artificial vanilla taste in sight.

Will definitely be back to DMK!

Demeater the Blog

Time and time again, I seem to be the go-to resource for my friends and colleagues when it comes to restaurant referrals, wine recommendations, and any questions "foodie-related." For that reason, Demeater the Blog has been created. Although I live and primarily eat in the city of Chicago, I will include posts for some of my favorite eateries and food-related travel spots around the country.

Demeater: a combination of the Greek goddess of the harvest, Demeter, and one of my true food passions, meat.
